National Geographic judges selected the top winners of this year’s travel photography competition.
The winning image is the back of a humpback whale calf’s tail, entitled “Mermaid” of the Japanese photographer Reiko Takahashi. This is clearly not the winner, I chose this image because it instantly reminded me of HR Giger, the creator of the alien in Alien.
